3 Tips for Picking a College If You Plan to Rush in 2027
Choosing your dream college? Here's what you need to know before sorority recruitment!
If you're a high school senior planning to rush in 2027, first of all, HOW EXCITING!! College is right around the corner, and I know you're probably dreaming about all the fun things ahead—meeting your future roommates, decorating your dorm, game days, and of course, SORORITY RECRUITMENT!
But before you start planning your Bid Day outfit, there's one pretty big decision to make… where are you going to college?! Choosing a college is SUCH an exciting time, but it can also feel a little overwhelming, especially if you know you want to rush! Every school is different, and there are a few things I definitely recommend looking into before making your final decision.
So, let's get into my 3 biggest tips for choosing a college if you plan to rush in 2027!
1. Talk to Older Girls Who Go There!
This is probably one of my FAVORITE pieces of advice because there is truly nothing better than hearing from girls who have already been in your shoes!
If you're considering a certain college, reach out to older girls from your high school, family friends, or anyone you know who currently goes there. Ask them about their experience and what they love (or don't love!) about their school. And if they're in a sorority, EVEN BETTER!
Ask them things like:
What do you love most about your college?
What is Greek life like there?
What was your recruitment experience like?
Is there anything you wish you knew before going to that school?
What advice would you give someone who is thinking about rushing there?
You can learn SO much from girls who have already gone through the process. And don't be afraid to reach out! Most girls LOVE getting to talk about their college experience and share a little wisdom with someone younger. Just remember that everyone's experience is different, so I always recommend talking to a few different girls to get a better feel for the school!
2. Find Out What Rush Looks Like at Each School!
Okay, girls, this one is IMPORTANT!
Something you might not realize is that sorority recruitment can look SO different depending on the school you choose! Some colleges have recruitment before classes even start, while others have it later in the fall or even in the spring. Some schools have huge sorority houses, while others don't have traditional houses at all! Before committing to a college, I would definitely spend some time looking into what Greek life actually looks like there.
Here are a few things to research:
When is recruitment? Does it happen before school starts, during the fall semester, or in the spring?
Are there sorority houses? Do girls live in them, or does the school have a different setup?
How big is Greek life? Is it a huge part of campus culture, or is it a smaller community?
What does recruitment look like? How many rounds are there? Are there any special requirements or deadlines?
How can you prepare? Does the school have specific recommendations or guidelines for potential new members?
Trust me, knowing what to expect ahead of time can make SUCH a difference! And if you're already feeling a little overwhelmed by all things recruitment, DON'T WORRY! That's exactly why we created Recruitment Ready!
Through our RR Coaching, we help girls feel confident and prepared for recruitment, from knowing what to expect to getting ready for conversations and everything in between. You do NOT have to figure it all out on your own, and getting a head start is always a good idea!
3. Make Sure You Actually LOVE the School!
Okay, this might be my BIGGEST tip of all. As much as I love sorority life (and trust me, I LOVE it!), I always tell girls that you need to choose a college because you love the SCHOOL, not just because you love the sororities!
At the end of the day, you're going to college for so much more than recruitment week. You're going to be taking classes, meeting new people, finding your favorite coffee spots, getting involved on campus, and making memories that will last forever!
So before you make your final decision, ask yourself:
Does this school have the major or academic programs I'm interested in?
Can I genuinely see myself being happy here?
Do I like the campus, location, and overall vibe?
Are there other clubs and organizations I'd want to get involved in?
Does this school make sense financially for me and my family?
