Tip 1: Practice what you’re going to say before you start filming, but don’t read from a script!
One of the biggest mistakes PNMs make is sounding overly rehearsed. You absolutely want to practice your answers beforehand so you feel confident and prepared, but avoid reading directly from a notecard or memorizing every word. Sororities want to get to know the real you! Your personality, energy, and authenticity matter so much more than sounding “perfect.” Speak slowly, smile, and imagine you’re talking to an older friend or recruiter. The more natural you sound, the more confident and genuine you’ll come across on camera.
Tip 2: Set Yourself Up for a Great Video & don’t wing it! Don’t forget to SMILE!!
Let’s be honest—filming a recruitment video can feel a little intimidating! Give yourself grace and remember that nobody expects perfection. If possible, have a friend or family member hold the phone while you film so you can focus on being yourself and speaking naturally. If you're recording solo, prop your phone up on a stable surface to keep your video steady and hands-free. Choose a well-lit space with a clean background, and trust that your authenticity will shine through. The goal isn’t to be perfect—it’s to let your personality come across with confidence.
Tip 3: Film multiple takes and choose the one that feels most like YOU!
Do not pressure yourself to nail it in one take. I always recommend filming several versions of your video because sometimes your best one is the take you least expect! Watching them back helps you see which video feels the most natural, confident, and conversational. It’s also smart to have backup copies saved in case you run into technical issues during the submission process. The goal is not perfection — it’s presenting the best, most confident version of yourself.
Tip 4: Wear a fun top (NOT STRAPLESS) that makes you feel confident!
What you wear on camera matters more than most people realize. Pick a blouse or dress that has a fun neckline that will elevate your video in a classy way. Avoid wearing boring colors (black, grey etc.) and focus on an outfit that makes you feel confident!
