3 tips for the mom with a senior in high-school this year! Part 1!

Moms, hello! I am truly so honored you are here. I am proud of you. You are busy and yet you are taking the time to read this blog. I know you are busy so let’s get to it!

I am sharing 3 tips for “letting her go” while also “celebrating her well” in this season.

I have been on COUNTLESS zoom calls with girls and moms who are feeling all the things: excited, anxious, nervous, happy, expectant etc. I am here for you and I am cheering you on!!!

Oh and trust me-I have been there! I went to Auburn from Knoxville, TN (5 hours away) and my mom and I were both a little sad I was leaving, but good news! You can still travel together, meet her new college friends and visit often!

Now time for the three tips for moms!

TIP NUMBER ONE: Release the pressure of having the “perfect” graduation party. There is always that -one mom- who goes above and beyond for every single thing. I mean even the tissue paper in the bathroom is monogrammed with her daughter’s future University letters kinda thing. OH! MY!

You know what? Let this mom take it too far and let yourself focus on throwing a lovely event…even if you forget to board the dogs before guests come. It’s OKAY! Your daughter probably loves the family dogs. The party does not have to be PERFECT to be good enough. Focus on a lovely, thoughtful celebration instead of every single perfect detail.

Take some inspo from a beautiful luncheon I went to at Blackberry Farm.!

TIP NUMBER TWO: Speaking of graduation parties, hire a photographer or designate a trusted, creative friend to being the photographer for the event. Allow yourself to chit chat with your friends, celebrate your daughter, hug family and ENJOY the moment. You don’t want to worry about getting your iPhone out every five seconds to take a picture. Take the pressure off by having a casual photographer floating around capturing the sweet memories from your daughter’s graduation party.

Bonus tip! Once you get the photos back..sit down with your daughter and look through them together. She will likely be so excited to post them on her own Instagram and this can be a fun way to reflect on the sweet time of celebration! You will also score major cool points for providing her with high-quality content to share from her party! ;)

TIP NUMBER THREE: Think through a thoughtful graduation gift she will cherish forever. Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us that there is a season for “everything” under the sun. This season is for celebrating and remembering. I STILL wear the David Yurman ring my parents bought me when I graduated from CAK back in 2015! EEK. I have been married for almost 4 years and wear it alongside my wedding ring. It reminds me of where I came from and all the support I had along the way.

You do NOT need to spend $5,000 on a graduation gift. That is NOT what I am saying. Instead, focus on what fits within your budget and be thoughtful about the timing of giving it to her. If you want to copy my mom, we linked that David Yurman ring in this post  here as a grad gift idea, but I encourage you to spend time and think about what would be special to her!

Okay and because I LOVE styling….

Step into this season feeling confident and excited to celebrate your daughter (while looking chic doing it!) & as always, cheering you on!
